When I was pregnant, I suffered from sciatica, but never got to the point of wanting or needing to get it treated. Now, I am having the same symptoms, but I’m NOT pregnant, and the pain is anywhere from moderate to SEVERE – a 10/10 on the pain scale! If you have dealt with this before, please help!
We have a large nerve bundle that runs from our hips to our heels. It is contained in a cartilage "tunnel" in the pelvic bone. Any sort of trauma from falling to pregnancy can bust open that "tunnel." There is no cure. When the weather is damp (low pressure system) it makes it even worse (pain). Sometimes a chiropractor can help the worst of the pain, and maybe acupuncture but I don’t believe it. It is something we have to suffer with the rest of our lives. : (
I had painful rashes on my back and abdomen which eventually subsided leaving scars but chronic pain still persists. I am having
severe back and abdominal pain for the past one week. How long will it last and what is the best treatment?
My dr prescribed Valtrex, which decreases the length of time that you have the symptoms, and helps prevent future problems. Best wishes, I’m going thru the same thing.
Hi, everyone !
How can you bear the burning pain while doing the exercises ?
My trainer says I should not stop doing the exercises when I feel it’s burning because that will help me to get muscles. But I just can’t stand it ! How can I bear more pain ? what should I eat?
Please, give me some advice !!!
Thanks for your answers,
Percy
latic acid build up. Try to shake it out after each set
my mother had recently been suffering painstakingly from sciatica and she cant move at all, been in bed all day and i feel for her so if anybody has easy treatment for the moment to ease her pain i would be very appreciative.
thank you.
Shizno S,
I know exactly how your mom feels from the perspective of a patient, having had 14 surgeries on my spine, and also having a doctorate in physical anthropology with a focus on the age-progressive phenomena that affect the spine and hips.
I have written about the subject you are asking about and would be happy to have you review any of the articles at EzineArtilces dot com. I will leave the exact link to my work below!
First, use ice not heat! Ice will reduce the inflammation and allow your mom some fairly quick pain relief! I talk about ice versus heat in one of the articles! Also, have her lie on her side with pillows between her legs at the knees. Put one or two under her head so her spine, neck to sacrum (tailbone) is one straight line! That will relieve pressure. I would suggest an ice-compression brace and you can get one on my blog but a bag of ice will work just fine until you can get one…if you can afford it. They are worth the investment, I used mine for YEARS! If not, just use an ice bag, wrap it around her waist with a towel or sheet, and the keep it there for 30 minutes, then off for a few minutes, then back on as needed. Have your mom wear a t-shirt or something else light so the ice isn’t in direct contact with the skin, so you avoid frostbite and uncomfortable pain due to the cold. There may be some discomfort as a result of the cold but compared to the relief she will get with the ice, it’s a small price to pay!
Sciatica is a symptom of some sort of an underlying condition. It can range from a simple muscle imbalance to a ruptured disc and nerve impingement. Without an MRI it is impossible to tell. If the pain is that bad, I would suggest an immediate visit to the doctor’s office! I wouldn’t go to an ER if you can avoid it, you will wait forever and the pain of waiting will be worst than anything they will do for her, right away anyway. Some urgent care centers are good, particularly if you call ahead and tell them you are bringing your mom in an that she cannot sit in a waiting room for a long time because she is in so much pain.
You don’t say how old your mom is, what precipitated the event, if she has had this problem long-term, and if she is overweight or not. All of these factors come into play.
I wish I could help more, I know what she is going through and can quite literally "feel her pain." Let me know if I can be of further assistance! excellencepaidforward (at) gmail dot com is my personal email if you need anything else answered!
I no thats a pretty complicated question to answer in one little diddy but i am gunna get one and i just wanted to be prepared.. I have a pretty high pain tolerence and i am a rebel so i thought a lip ring would be awesome!!! Until i looked up the risks and infections…What can i do to make FOR SURE it doesnt get infected?
PAIN LEVEL: doesnt hurt too bad, literally feels like a pinch and afterwards it swells and is hot to the touch. i had a labret and at first it was a little difficult to eat, it felt kinda weird. dont buy the solution rinse they try to sell u. its just salt water. u can make it urself. also, when ur brushing ur teeth at night, get a qtip and soak it in ur saltwater and clean the little hole. check for any food thats stuck… ikno, sounds gross but it happens and thats what causes infection. if there is some, u can gently (very gently) squeeze it out.
antiinflammatories or pain pills)? The exercises and pills haven’t worked so far. Why does it take so long for a doctor to realize an epidural or cortizone shot may be the answer? When I’ve told the doctor how excruciating and unbearable the pain is????
try acupuncture
I have a slipped disc and a sciatica for 2 months now. NHS referred me to an osteopath but today he told me if I don’t agree to have an operation he will discharge me, so he did so. I did not want to have an injection nor operation. He said if his treatments have not improve my condition by now I need an operation. But today I went privately to a physio and she said I don’t need an operation just a good physio who can take care of me. Who should I trust more? To be honest I wasn’t happy with the treatment I had from the osteopath as he never did any massage on me, I saw him once every 2 weeks (5 or 6 times altogether). Any advise? I will have a MRI scan next week by the way.
the NHS usually only offer a short course of treatment. if things don’t get any better then the usually refer you. if you really don’t want to have the operation then i would go with the physio, but i guess if after that it still isn’t better then you would be back to needing the operation…..its up to you who you trust really.
best of luck x
A crack, maybe in the amalgam of this old filling, became a flapping hinge for many months, then broke away, leaving a nice but smaller rear molar. There has been no pain at any time, so I’m hard to convince that treatment is really needed..yet. In fact I haven’t been to a dentist for at least seven years; I prefer my own methods of scrupulous care.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the seal of the filling has broken. Bacteria will enter and decay will start under the filling. You can’t possibly clean in this area because it is a microscopic gap. The filling is probably already leaking. You may not feel pain now, but once you do, it’s too late!
If you go to the Dentist now, you will probably get away with a slightly larger filling. If you leave it, you will very likely need a root canal treatment and then will definately need a Crown.
A filling? A few pounds.
Root canal and a crown? About a grand – £1500. If you aren’t bothered about your oral health, then the cost may change your opinion!!
Another cheap option, of course, is extraction. Not recommended!! Once they’re gone, that’s it. I don’t know how old you are, but they are meant to last for life…
