http://TheBadBackGuy.net Stretching is a crucial part of any neck pain, back pain, and sciatica relief and treatment exercise program. Begin your routine slowly and you will be amazed at the results!

I have made this video with two stretches I do often, several times a day as a matter of fact. They help relieve tension and they help to alleviate stiff and tired neck and back muscles.

For those just beginning a neck pain, back pain, and sciatica relief and treatment exercise program, these stretches will be immensely helpful!

You can find them at my blog too, The Bad Back Guy’s Neck Pain, Back Pain, and Sciatica Relief Blog:

Broadcast Date: Nov. 17, 1960

Three thousand miles and 17 pairs of shoes into a very long journey, a CBC TV reporter catches up with Kevin Griffen and Matt Dean, two young football fans walking across the country to get to the Grey Cup game. Without even knowing which teams will end up playing, the boys set out from Toronto to Vancouver on foot, hoping also to snare some good seats to the game when they arrive.
Going the distance

• The “race” started as a bet, and grew into a lucrative adventure. Kevin Griffen will receive a $10,000 medical scholarship, sponsored by a chiropractor in Prescott, Ont. The two will also split $5,000 cash.
• When the reporter caught up to them they were already in Chilliwack, B.C., close to their destination, and had slowed down the pace a little bit.

• In 1960, the Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Edmonton Eskimos, just as one of the young men had confidently predicted. But over the next five years, Ottawa had five straight second-place finishes. Their breakthrough came again in 1968 when they defeated Calgary for another Grey Cup win.

• Nearly 50 years later, another pair of fans “went the distance” to attend a Grey Cup game. In 1996, Mark Sproxton and Duane Melchert covered over 3,000 kilometres to attend the game in Hamilton. They started in Yellowknife and took every sort of transportation available to reach their destination.

Audiobook for $7.49: http://cli.gs/dividedmind

“Dr. Sarno brilliantly explores the chasm between the conscious and unconscious minds, where psychosomatic ailments originate.” (Mehmet Oz, M.D., co-author of You: The Owner’s Manual)

Publisher’s Summary
The Divided Mind is the crowning achievement of Dr. John E. Sarno’s long and successful career as a groundbreaking medical pioneer. While his earlier books dealt almost exclusively with musculoskeletal pain disorders, here Dr. Sarno addresses the entire spectrum of psychosomatic (mind-body) disorders. In Dr. Sarno’s view, the crucial interaction between the reasonable, rational, ethical, moral conscious mind and the repressed feelings of emotional pain, hurt, sadness, and anger characteristic of the unconscious mind is the basis for many mind-body disorders.

The Divided Mind traces the history of psychosomatic medicine, including Freud’s crucial role as well as his failures. Most important, it describes the psychology of the human condition that is responsible for the broad range of psychosomatic illness. Dr. Sarno believes that the failure of medicine’s practitioners to recognize and appropriately treat mind-body disorders has produced public health and economic problems of major proportions in the United States. One of the most interesting and important aspects of psychosomatic phenomena is the fact that knowledge and awareness of the process clearly have healing powers.

“As far as Dr Sarno and his colleagues are concerned, fibromyalgia is a severe form of TMS, and is best treated like any other form of TMS, i.e. by providing knowledge and understanding of the true source of the pain. The core of this treatment is a lecture presentation in which Dr. Sarno (or a colleague) leads the patients through a process of realisation of the relationship between emotions and physical symptoms and explains to them the importance of understanding what is going on as the basis for curing many common pain syndromes.”

John E. Sarno, M.D. is Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University School of Medicine. He has been practicing medicine since 1950. Dr. Sarno is the acclaimed author of Mind Over Back Pain, the #1 New York Times bestseller Healing Back Pain, and the bestselling The Mindbody Prescription. Dr. Sarno lives in New York.

Last Monday my lower back started to hurt and I was wondering what I should do to relieve it? When I walk it doesn’t hurt too much . I stretch it a bit. It mainly hurts when I sit and want to get back up.
What are good exercises to help relieve the pain?

Here are some good examples:

http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/1998/298_exer.html
http://www.nismat.org/orthocor/programs/lowback/backex.html
http://www.teamintraining.org/currentparticipants/training/marathontraining/specificexercisesforlowerbackp/
http://www.spine-health.com/wellness/exercise/exercise-sciatica-a-herniated-disc

I have occasional lower back pain related to a partly-herniated disc. My insurer would not pay for an MRI or physical therapy, so I put myself on a home exercise program similar to the exercises above.

Cold compresses or ice packs to the painful area also work well, as do anti-inflammatories.

Back pain that lasts longer than a month should be evaluated by your physician. If you’re diagnosed with a herniated disc or other vertebral injury and have insurance, a Physical Therapist can show you a good Home Exercise Program.

What is the best treatment for sciatica and alcoholic neuropathy? I like have pain that starts from my hip (Lumbar region of my spine) radiating to the posterolateral side of right leg and further down, no numbness or tingling. Sciatica confirmed diagnosis and pain increases with consumption of alcohol.

Is there any therapy good enough to relieve this pain ?

Any medications as permanent cure ?

Thank you!

I haven;t the slightest idea why alcohol would make it worse. Are you sure the doctor said sciatic nerve. Some have nerve problems and think it’s the sciatic nerve but, it’s not.
You’d have to know from where it’s originating from, what part of the back, which vertebrae and then make a plan for aide.

Should I prime them first? And what type of paint will last the longest? – assuming it’s subjected to water, sun and other outdoor elements. Thanks!

Hey, I’ve had to ask myself this question several times, and from trial and error I can tell you the best thing that has worked for me is Sherwin-Williams. I would use their outdoor products because this little buggers going to be swimming and stuff, and you want it to hold as long as possible. Yes I would put a primer on and then you can continue on with any color you fancy.

Happy Painting!!!
